Low Ratings Equals Not Good

I know I promised a review of "Sanctuary," but I will be waiting for the second episode to premiere on Friday as I found the pilot to be lacking in some respects. After all, "Star Trek: The Next Generation" didn't have a whirlwind fantastic beginning and it ran for seven seasons.

All right, it seems as if the Writer's Strike last year has affected the fall season in a negative way thus far. Ratings have dropped for returning shows and have started pretty low for new shows. Among the shows that might be in trouble are "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" (FOX), "Pushing Daisies" (ABC), and "Chuck" (NBC). In fact, the new TV show "Fringe" (FOX) is extremely lucky that it is getting a full season as it began with only so-so ratings. I encourage everyone to try to watch their favorite show when it airs to improve ratings for shows that might end up on the chopping block. The Nielsen ratings do not measure how much viewers like a show, but how many people watch them. So watch them, talk to your family and friends into watching them, and perhaps you can buy the first season of your fave show if you haven't already. The most creative and well-written shows are becoming extinct, and the top broadcast TV shows as of late September were crime shows and reality shows.

I'm not saying abandon your social life, but we don't want to lose anymore shows that have the caliber of "Firefly" and "Arrested Development." Come on, people, watch a little TV.
